Title of work Can you hear us?
Date of work 2019
Medium Installation - Acrylic, etched wood, metal
Exhibited Venue Vestry House Museum, Walthamstow (London)
This work spread across the entire Vestry House Museum garden as a series of speech bubbles. They are conversations between trees, flowers and insects including pollinators such as bees and butterflies. The conversations address the crisis of pollinators as well as historical events that have taken place at the Vestry House Museum. For example, a plague of insects swept through Walthamstow in 1782 and the poor from the workhouse aided the farmers in eradicating it. This was the very first time the workhouse residents were paid for their tasks, and this continued to be the case after 1785.
This work was created for five-person exhibition Swarm - Artists respond to the pollinator crisis, curated by Alke Schmidt.
